Default Tees

The Bennett Valley Golf Club applies the USGA recommendation to adjust course handicap for golfers playing from different tees in a tournament.

BVGC handicapped tournaments default to the WHITE tees for men and RED tees for women.

Course rating differences are added to a player's handicap to compensate for difficulty level between tees.  If a member opts to play from a tee with a course rating lower than the default, they are ineligible to participate in non-handicapped competitions like Closest To Pin.

For the Club Championship, the Champion Flight is played from the BLUE tees for men, course rating 71.3, and GOLD tees for women, course rating 71.1.  The Champion Flight is not handicapped.  Male and female scratch players typically shoot 71 on a good day from those tees.

BVGC stroke play events often feature an optional low gross tournament played from the WHITE tees for men, course rating 69.3, and the RED tees for women, course rating 70.1.  Giving male players a rounded 1 stroke advantage is not ideal but is the only way to add a gross stroke play tournament to a net stroke play event.
